Professional tooth whitening treatment is non invasive and doesn't damage your teeth. A good professional treatment can leave your teeth up to eight shades lighter.

Why do my teeth look dull?

There are several causes of dull-looking teeth. Over time, the surface enamel can thin, so the yellower dentine beneath shows through. Enamel is porous, which means staining agents can work their way down into the tooth. This means enamel yellows over the years, and absorbs colour from the things we eat and drink, such as red wine and coffee. Smoking is a major culprit.

What is the procedure?

We will take impressions of your teeth to have tooth whitening trays custom made by our dental technician. Our hygienist will then professionally clean your teeth to remove any staining and debris in order to make the tooth whitening process more effective. At home you will put tooth whitening gel in your custom made trays which will fit over your teeth for around an hour a day over the course of about two weeks.

You may have one or two very dark ‘dead’ teeth. This discolouration can happen after having a knock or trauma to the tooth or after root canal treatment. In this case the discolouration occurs deep within the tooth and cannot usually be lightened using conventional tooth whitening alone. If this is the case we can seal a tooth whitening substance into the tooth to lighten it from within in conjunction with your tooth whitening trays.

How long will it last?

That depends on how often you consume ‘darkening’ things (such as smoke, red wine and coffee). You should keep the whitening trays supplied with your treatment to do a ‘top up’ treatment every 3 to 6 months to maintain your bright new smile.
